Sensory Experiences

Benefits of Sensory play
Sensory play supports language development, cognitive skills, motor skills, problem-solving, and social interaction.
It builds neural connections, aiding complex learning tasks and enhancing memory function.
Sensory play also helps calm anxious children and teaches sensory attributes.

Creating a sensory rich environment
Our sensory-rich environment features diverse props encouraging children to explore.
This exploration builds their knowledge of the world and strengthens neural connections.
As children process sensory information, they refine their understanding and make sense of their surroundings.

Supporting every child’s wellbeing
Our approach aligns with Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), ensuring children feel safe, respected, and nurtured.
We promote a holistic attitude to child development allowing children the tools and time to experience, explore and experiment.
We want everyone using the hub to experience an environment which offers a place to be Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, and Included.

Using the Senses to Learn
Children use their senses to understand the world around them, integrating touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell, balance, and movement as methods of information gathering.
This new sensory information builds on their past learning experiences and helps to develop neural pathways in the brain.
From birth to adulthood, we explore and learn through our senses. Research shows that exposure to sensory-rich environments positively influences cognitive development .

Resources
The opportunities in our Sensory Hub are aimed at helping parents to engage with their child in activities which will help with intellectual learning, emotional security, physical wellbeing, and curiosity through play and exploration fostering an individual approach that will help shape a child’s personality.
